Returning to the blog

Well. It has been a while! It has been that long that my browser had forgotten my password!

I haven’t even got a good enough excuse this time! I think I lost my mojo. Funnily enough, I have found it again…I think. Let me explain:

Knitting hobby?

I never really had a hobby. I like video games so playing Farming Simulator and The Sims 4 is how I often spend my nights. However, it can’t be described as a hobby although Wikipedia has a different opinion.

“A hobby is a regular activity that is done for enjoyment, typically during one’s leisure time. It can include collecting themed items and objects, engaging in creative and artistic pursuits, playing sports, or pursuing other amusements. Participation in hobbies encourages acquiring substantial skills and knowledge in that area.”

Wikipedia

I used to enjoy knitting, but I no longer live close to my Nan who I used to regularly knit with, either at her house or ours. Then later, or rather very recently, the friend who taught me how to knit died. Her funeral was well supported but brought up many sad and lovely memories. I decided to try and knit again and unfortunately found out I had forgotten the skills she taught me, which made me feel quilt that I had let them go.

I have began to try and knit again but alas, I have not quite mastered the pearl stitch which is one of the most important stiches…

Wonky Works Boutique

I had just had a delivery of some beautiful earrings off of Etsy. For those not familiar with Etsy, it is a selling site or app that individual creators can display their crafts or items.

My Dad saw them and commented that I probably could make my own earrings and save money!

So I did.

Oh boy is it addictive! Before I knew it, I had made 6 or seven pairs. I started to practise more, and got myself more than one pair of pliers until I got better and better.

I decided that instead of just making myself 100’s of earrings that would take me a lifetime to wear, I decided to sell them. On Etsy.

I have really enjoyed creating these of an evening now, while watching my favourite show or listening to music. Having positive feedback really helps. I make earrings with brass, silver, and steel. Never with Nickel.

I did research before starting and found out that certain materials are not good to use in earrings. Such as Tibetan silver.

Tibetan silver is a term commonly used in the jewellery-making industry to describe a metal alloy. However, Tibetan silver does not actually contain silver…

Instead, it is primarily composed of copper alloyed with various other metals such as nickel, zinc, and sometimes tin or lead. That is why it is dangerous because it isn’t clear what metal is actually being used!

New Job

I started a new job at the start of August and it has been so good, not only for my working life but personal life.

It that has been taking a lot of my focus at the moment but I am not complaining. It is still working part time and is part of the NHS but I am using the same system EMIS as before. Anyone who works in Primary Care will know how much of a pain EMIS can be. Constantly crashing, the random updates, to name 2 issues.

I am no longer working in a GP surgery anymore but I work as part of a community clinic supporting clinicians with blood pressure machines, 24 hour ECG’s and Echocardiograms. It means I still get to enjoy booking patient’s in for their appointments, and I get to enjoy the admin side too, like sorting referrals and typing letters.

I work in a small team and all team members have been nothing but welcoming. It has been such a blessing. This new job has enabled me to be more flexible in my personal life than ever, even allowing me to work from home!

With this new job, I have been able to expand my skills and have felt challenged. True, it is early days so I still make mistakes but I am enjoying it so far!

Will radio silence continue…

I couldn’t tell you. I’d like to say no but life is so busy at the moment. What I will commit to is that we are going on holiday again soon, somewhere exciting that will most likely motivate me to blog.

Who knows!

How have you been?

Has life been hectic for you? Have you taken up any new hobbies recently? Let me know by commenting on this post. I may not post a lot, but I definitely read your comment!
